17th September 2020 - Bible Reading - Revelation 19

For our Lord God Almighty reigns.

7 Let us rejoice and be glad

and give him glory!

For the wedding of the Lamb has come,

and his bride has made herself ready.

8 Fine linen, bright and clean,

was given her to wear.”

a prayer for today

Pray for our mission partners with CMS : Adrian and Anita Lovell serving in Bolivia.

Give thanks for God’s protection of us and those we love. Pray for continued good health and God’s special protection (especially at this time when all the hospitals are full).

Give thanks that the unrest has calmed for the moment. Pray for just elections in October, and for peace in the lead-up.

Give thanks for an abundance of ministry opportunities, and pray for renewed strength to make the most of them.

Give thanks for the gift of life, as we await the arrival of a baby girl. Pray we’d trust God with the timing of her arrival and that he would prepare our family well in this time of waiting.

16th September 2020 - Bible Reading - Revelation 18

That word again. “‘Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great!’

And so the word to us, God's people. As we live in a godless world, to be distinct, to not embrace the world view of our city. To “‘Come out of her, my people,’

a prayer for today

A prayer of thanksgiving - We praise you Lord of heaven and earth - that you are our hope, our praise, our joy. For the gift of life - on this earth and everything renal - we bless you. Enable us to share the good news that we have received with others. In Jesus name. Amen.

15th September 2020 - Bible Reading - Revelation 17

Another picture giving further testimony to all that we are learning on Sundays in Daniel. The kingdoms of this world stand opposed to God, they are strong, they mark it hard to hold onto faith. But, they will not last. Take heart!

They will wage war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will triumph over them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings—and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers.”

a prayer for today

A prayer of repentance - Our Father in heaven, forgive us our debts, the things we owe to you and to others. Enable us to forgive others. And let us walk in the light of your forgiveness. In Jesus name, Amen.

14th September 2020 - Bible Reading - Revelation 16

A chapter that declares that God's coming judgment on all who refuse to come before him in repentance and faith will be true and just. It will not be fickle or flippant but forever.

And even the forever nature of the judgment is just. We are told in verse 9 that hell will not be filled with those who finally repent, but those who even then refuse to repent or glorify him.

Here is the the tragedy and the justice of hell - it will remain forever - an endless cycle of sin, rebellion, judgment.

“You are just in these judgments, O Holy One,

you who are and who were;

a prayer for today

Lord, you are great. You are awesome. You are worthy of all glory. With shame, we admit that we sin against you, again and again. But you, who raised Jesus Christ from the dead, who made a name for yourself as the God of rescue and of victory over death, are a God of forgiveness. Bring more glory to your name by your mercy on us. Amen.

13th September 2020 - Bible Reading - Revelation 15

Wonderful! On the edge of the promised land Moses taught God's redeemed people a new song to sing together in the promised land (Deuteronomy 32). And here we are told that the song that they sung and the song we sing as those redeemed by Jesus, the lamb of God, is the same song. And we will all sing it together in the heavenly land to come!

“Great and marvelous are your deeds,

Lord God Almighty.

Just and true are your ways,

King of the nations.

4 Who will not fear you, Lord,

and bring glory to your name?

For you alone are holy.

All nations will come

and worship before you,

for your righteous acts have been revealed.”

We won't always be restricted from singing!

a prayer for today

Pray for the national cabinet of Australia. Grant them unity, wisdom and trustworthiness to enact plans to provide Australians with safety and opportunity.

12th September 2020 - Bible Reading - Revelation 14

Ties in well with all that we are learning from Daniel each Sunday. The kingdoms of this world, typified by Babylon seem to hold sway and make faith in God as King difficult to sustain. But, here is how history plays out,

“Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.”

“‘Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great,’ (14.8).

a prayer for today

Pray that God would grow our desire and commitment to each spend time with him in his word, the Bible. Pray that through this we may grow a deep love for Jesus, and a desire to follow him in all of life.

11th September 2020 - Bible Reading - Revelation 13

A vivid and overwhelming picture of the nature and purpose of evil in this world - turning hearts from worshiping God to worshipping that which is Godless and evil. It is a picture similar to that which we are seeing in Daniel at the moment. But, in the wider context of revelation (as with Daniel) we see that God is not overcome by this evil and his people must know this. As Revelation 14.10 puts it, This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness on the part of God’s people.

a prayer for today

Pray for the night church leadership team. Pray for wisdom, creativity and faithfulness to God’s gospel - that night church may be a place where visitors learn of Jesus and respond to him with repentance and faith. Pray that God would grow night church for his glory.

10th September 2020 - Bible Reading - Revelation 12

I find these words wonderfully stirring. Why can you be sure that Satan (and his insidious practice of accusing us of guilt before God, day and night - seeking to undermine our assurance) will be defeated? The answer is simple, but wonderful. Because there is one who represents us, day and night, before God. Jesus. And he has ended the court case, by presenting his blood in our defense. And that same blood hurls down our accuser, defeated!

“Now have come the salvation and the power

and the kingdom of our God,

and the authority of his Messiah.

For the accuser of our brothers and sisters,

who accuses them before our God day and night,

has been hurled down.

11 They triumphed over him

by the blood of the Lamb

and by the word of their testimony;

they did not love their lives so much

as to shrink from death.

12 Therefore rejoice, you heavens

and you who dwell in them!

a prayer for today

Pray for our mission partners with CMS : Dave and Leoni Painter serving in Cambodia.

"Words of Life" church has now met at our house for two months. Pray for Dave as he preaches on Mark's Gospel (6th) and part of a series on "Our Church" (27th), as well as for the Staff and Faculty of the Bible School (11th). Uphold us in prayer, that we shall remain faithful to the Gospel, and that those coming will grow in their understanding of what it means to be a true follower of Jesus.

Pray for us, as often we feel the distance and isolation from family and friends, when we know we cannot visit, particularly in times of need. We give thanks that our Cambodian colleagues and friends are increasingly understanding the sacrifice of those who have remained - we are not here for material or professional advantages, but for opportunities to serve and share.

9th September 2020 - Bible Reading - Revelation 11

A passage best captured by this...

a prayer for today

A prayer of thanksgiving - By the day the LORD directs his love, at night his song is with me . Lord, how wonderful that you direct your love to us. How beautiful that your song is with us. Enable us to live with joy, love and singing. In Jesus name. Amen.

8th September 2020 - Bible Reading - Revelation 10

I love this wonderful insight into the experience and purpose of the word God speaks...

9 So I went to the angel and asked him to give me the little scroll. He said to me, “Take it and eat it. It will turn your stomach sour, but ‘in your mouth it will be as sweet as honey.’” 10 I took the little scroll from the angel’s hand and ate it. It tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth, but when I had eaten it, my stomach turned sour. 11 Then I was told, “You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, languages and kings.”

The word of God is not meant to be merely listened to, simply to wash off us. It is to be experienced. You're meant to take it in deep - eat it, taste it. And don't assume it will all be easy to eat - some of it hard to take. But all of it true, and desperately important.

And the consuming of the word is not meant to stop with us. It is a word to share, to speak prophetically to a world that has stopped listening!

a prayer for today

A prayer of repentance - Grant, we beg you, merciful Lord, to your faithful people, pardon and peace, that they may be cleansed from all their sins, and serve you with a quiet mind: through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

7th September 2020 - Bible Reading - Revelation 9

A confronting picture of a world utterly disconnected from God, a world that has traded in faith in God for faith in itself, for love of God for love of self. A world that has then turned on itself.

It is devestating. I find myself crying out 'come Lord Jesus'.

a prayer for today

Praise God that he is king and in a world opposed to him, his promises will prevail. Give thanks that his word reveals the troubles we must face in this world, because of our faith in God as King. Give thanks that although in this world we will face trouble, we can take heart in the promise that he has overcome the world.

6th September 2020 - Bible Reading - Revelation 8

See how seriously the God of heaven takes our prayers (8.1-3).

As the prayers of Christians are poured out before his throne, heaven falls silent. As God our King listens to our prayers.

a prayer for today

Give wisdom to those in authority in every land. Give to all peoples a desire for righteousness and peace, with the will to work together in trust to seek the common good and to share with justice the resources of the earth.

5th September 2020 - Bible Reading - Revelation 7

A picture of the throne room of heaven (7.10).

What is heaven's king focused on in the lead up to the last day?

What will heaven celebrate throughout every day of eternity?

May this be our mission and our celebration too!

a prayer for today

Pray that we would share the Apostle Paul’s heartbreak that many live as enemies of the cross of Christ (Phil. 3.18). Pray that in response we would hold out the word of life (Phil 2.15-16).

4th September 2020 - Bible Reading - Revelation 6

An awesome picture of the coming judgment of God. It should humble and stir us and lead us to prayer for those we love and for the world God loves.

a prayer for today

Pray that our love may abound in knowledge and depth of insight, so that we may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ - to the glory and praise of God.

3rd September 2020 - Bible Reading - Revelation 5

Why is Jesus, the lamb of God, worthy of honour?

Because, for us, he was slain

Because, by his blood he purchased you for God. And not just you, but people from every tribe and nation. (Rev 5.9)

a prayer for today

Pray for our mission partners in the Bush Church Aid Society: Frank and Jo Nicol serving in Karratha. Karratha continues to be a transient town. Praise God for the encouragement of those currently with them. Pray that they would build people up in Christ while they are in Karratha, that they might proclaim Christ wherever they end up.

2nd September 2020 - Bible Reading - Revelation 4

Why is our Lord and God worthy of our honour?

Because all that is...he has created.

Because all that is...he has willed into being

Because all that is...continues to be...because he wills it!

Your life, this moment, the day ahead of you, is from him, and for him! Enjoy! (Rev 4.11)

a prayer for toady

A prayer of thanksgiving - Open my lips, Lord, and my mouth will declare your praise. You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, you O God, will not despise. Amen.

1st September 2020 - Bible Reading - Revelation 3

The letters to the churches recorded in Revelation 2 -3 give us a wonderful insight into who Jesus is and the promises that are ours because of faith in him. Each letter starts with a reminder that these letters are written by King Jesus and ends with a promise from the King.

I encourage you to read through them, see what they each tell you about our King, see the promises the king speaks to you.

Here is a glimpse of one, from the letter to Laodecia.

3.14 - These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation.

Jesus is The Amen - Jesus is how we can be sure that God says 'yes' to all his promises to us, despite us!

Jesus is faithful - where we are not, he is. Thank God that our hope rests on his faithfulness

Jesus is True - no shadow of doubt with him, no uncertainty as to his purposes. No lies. Just the truth that sets us free!

Jesus is The ruler of God's creation - and as you go about your way in it today, may you walk humbly. He rules. Not us!

a prayer for today

A prayer of repentance - Give thanks that the LORD’s mercies are new every morning. In this new season, pray that he would show us our sin, lead us to confess it before him and grant us a new start, because of Jesus, and a new obedience, by his Spirit in us.

31st August 2020 - Bible Reading - Revelation 2

A word for those whose love for Jesus has grown stale, who have forgotten the joy of coming to know and love and trust him, when you first believed. God's word to you. start again, discover him again! And this book of Revelation is a great place to do that...

Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. 5 Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first.

A prayer for today

Give thanks for the promise given and fulfilled, of the Son of Man, our saviour and King, Jesus. Give thanks that his kingdom will be an everlasting kingdom and that one day all rulers and nations will bow before him.

30th August 2020 - Bible Reading - Revelation 1

Is your vision of who Jesus is too small? I suspect for all us we have too small a view of just who he is. But here is the truth, that we will one day see. And here is the vision to have in your heart as we meet as his church, his body, his bride...

12 I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me. And when I turned I saw seven golden lampstands, 13 and among the lampstands was someone like a son of man, dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest. 14 The hair on his head was white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. 15 His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters. 16 In his right hand he held seven stars, and coming out of his mouth was a sharp, double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance.

17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. 18 I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.

a prayer for today

Pray for our Prime Minister and his government, for the opposition and all who serve in public service. Pray for the provision of essential services and the administration of justice. Pray for wisdom and compassion in response to those in need within our nation and beyond.
