26th June 2020 - Bible Reading - Ephesians 6

The famous quote says, it is better to die on your feet than live on your knees.

But here Paul says the opposite. The Christian soldier is to be on his knees all the time. He knows the only way he will live to see the other side of this battle is to live on his knees before God.

The most powerful weapon at our disposal is prayer - direct access to the throne room of God. As we seek to live spiritually in all aspects of our lives (not least our marriages, familles and workplaces) we need to keep these last verses in our mind – that in the sword of the Spirit and our access to God’s throne of grace (through prayer) we have abundant weapons to fight bravely under the banner of Christ against sin, the world and the devil! That is what we call children to do at their baptism. It remains the call for us throughout life.

25th June 2020 - Bible Reading - Ephesians 5

Verses 5.1-2 are so rich!

Here is your purpose in life - Be imitators of God

Here is the action that will involve - Live a life of love

Here is who you are as you do that - God's dearly loved children

Here is why that is who you are - Christ loved us and gave himself up for us

What a saviour! What a status! What a purpose!

Enjoy!

24th June 2020 - Bible Reading - Ephesians 4

A call to walk worthy! Which comes by hearing about Christ, learning Jesus, being taught the truth (v.21) - which leads to change being the new constant. And we learn of Jesus we are being transformed into his likeness.

a prayer for today

A prayer for today: A prayer of thanksgiving - Lord - you hear and answer prayer. May you grant our requests. Please remove this virus and above all remove the virus of sins from our hearts. Enable us to rejoice in you. In Jesus name. Amen.

23rd June 2020 - Bible Reading - Ephesians 3

A prayer...

  • from a place of humble need
  • to a rich King who is our Father

for power:

  • that Christ may dwell by faith
  • to know the dimensions of God's plan and love for us
  • to a God who is abundantly able...

a prayer for today

A prayer for today: A prayer of repentance - Our Father in heaven, we confess that the desires of our hearts are often selfish and wrong. Create in us a clean heart O Lord; renew a right spirit within us. Amen.

22nd June 2020 - Bible Reading - Ephesians 2

Brilliant verses to have in your heart as we start the week...

8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

a prayer for today

A prayer for today: Pray that, as the gospel shapes our view of our past, present and future, we would be a community marked by joy in Christ, rather than grumbling in circumstances.

21st June 2020 - Bible Reading - Ephesians 1

a prayer for today

Pray that we would share the Apostle Paul’s heartbreak that many live as enemies of the cross of Christ (Phil. 3.18). Pray that in response we would hold out the word of life (Phil 2.15-16).
